Filling and Capping Directions

You’ve probably filled and capped thousands of cartridges and are ready to charge ahead with your first batch of AVD carts. We know, we also hate reading directions, that is … until things go wrong…

So, please may we ask you to follow these “how to fill & cap AVD cartridges” carefully. AVD cartridges may be a little different to some of the others you’ve used.

Also, failure to follow these directions may result in cartridge leakage or poor performance.

Filling Directions

  • Insert a blunt tip needle (14ga or smaller) into the space between the center airway tube and the inner wall of the cartridge. We recommend an oil temperature range of 90°F-130°F when filling.

  • For resin cartridges, do not fill above the bottom of the metal band on the open end of the cartridge.
  • For glass cartridges, ensure there is no fluid in the top 4mm of the glass tank.

  • Caution: Do not allow oil to enter the center airway tube.

  • Do not overfill. If you overfill a cartridge, fluid will be forced through the atomizer and leak out of the bottom of the cartridge when the mouthpiece is capped.

  • Make sure the inner surface of the cartridge close to the top opening is free of fluid. Fluid on this surface may act as a lubricant, reducing retention of the mouthpiece.

  • Use the appropriate cartridge depending on your oil’s viscosity. AVD cartridges come with different aperture sizes. 2.0mm for thicker oils and 1.0mm for thinner oil types.

Resin Cartridge Capping

How to cap AVD Resin Cartridges
  • Immediately after filling, please press on the mouthpiece until it is fully seated. Mechanical assistance is required to seat the mouthpiece fully.

  • During capping, be aware that the silicone end cap can be punctured when too much pressure is applied.

  • The cartridge must be upright and centered with the mouthpiece when pressing down.

  • Do not use a hammer or mallet. Once the mouthpiece is fully seated, it cannot be removed without damaging the cartridge or the mouthpiece.

  • Caution: Failure to insert the mouthpiece immediately after filling may cause leakage. Do not twist or rotate the mouthpiece while it is being inserted.

  • Allow your cartridge to stand for at least 30 minutes. During this time, oil is priming the atomizer. The rate that the atomizer saturates is dependent upon the viscosity of the oil. More viscous oils will require more time.

Glass Cartridge Capping

  • Immediately after filling, screw-on the mouthpiece until it is fully seated.

  • When using a mechanical capping tool for threaded mouthpieces, the torque must be below 3.5kg F.cm.

  • Caution: failure to cap the mouthpiece immediately after filling may cause leakage.

  • Excessive torque may pull the center airway tube off the base.

  • Allow your cartridge to stand for at least 30 minutes. During this time, oil is priming the atomizer. The rate that the atomizer saturates is dependent upon the viscosity of the oil. More viscous oils will require more time.

Eazy-Press Glass Cartridge Capping

How to cap AVD Glass Easy-Press cartridges
  • Immediately after filling, insert the mouthpiece and press the mouthpiece in until you hear a click that indicates it is fully seated.

  • It is possible to seat the mouthpiece by hand, but a light-duty arbor press is recommended. Do not use a hammer or mallet.

  • During capping, be aware that the silicone end cap can be punctured when too much pressure is applied.

  • Once the mouthpiece is fully seated, it cannot be removed without damaging the cartridge or the mouthpiece.

  • Caution: Do not reuse a mouthpiece that you failed to seat on the first try. Although it may be undetectable, the mouthpiece will be damaged.

  • Do not twist or rotate the mouthpiece while it is being inserted. A misaligned cartridge or pressing at an angle will cause uneven pressure to be applied, causing the four hooks to not engage onto the receiving tube and will not be locked completely, potentially damaging the cartridge.

  • Make sure the cartridge is centered to the arbor press. The hooks should sit below the ledge of the center airway tube.

  • Allow your cartridge to stand for at least 30 minutes. During this time, oil is priming the atomizer. The rate that the atomizer saturates is dependent upon the viscosity of the oil. More viscous oils will require more time.
